Ashe Project Manager scoops top prize at Building Excellence Awards

Ashe project manager Andy Pacey scooped the LABC Residential Construction Professional of the Year Award at this years Excellence in the Central Region Awards held in April. Andy was instrumental in delivering the £25m refurbishment and extension project to create 202 flats and 21,000 sq ft of high-quality retail space in central Stevenage known as Park Place Plaza.

Situated in a run down part of the town, the project has delivered much needed mixed-use regeneration, and is set to kick start wider urban renewal in the area valued at over £350m. Aspirational open plan apartments overlooking the Town Centre Gardens, above an attractive, contemporary retail environment at ground level offer a positive urban lifestyle choice for Stevenage.

The scheme partly converted existing buildings, and extended them upwards and outwards to maximise the projects potential. This has resulted in a sensitive and sustainable approach to the regeneration – selectively reusing parts of the building, and building new where that makes sense.

Controlling a workforce that peaked at over 150 in a central town location, health & safety and logistics planning, coupled with good neighbour policies were of paramount importance. Andy’s skill and patience dealing with the public, build team and wider project team were pivotal in ensuring the ultimate success of this project.

Andy will now progress to the LABC Grand Finals 2019 which are taking place at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London on Friday 8th November.
